The 'best-connected journalist' in Puna.
-- Hawaii Island Journal
I was a reporter for close to 17 years at the Hawaii Tribune-Herald until October 2005, when I joined the growing ranks of union leaders now formerly employed by the newspaper. (For more about what's happening at the Tribune-Herald, check out the Hawaii Newspaper Guild web site.) Since then I've been the Hilo unit representative for the Guild, a freelance writer, photographer, and blogger. Puna has been my family's home since 1993.
Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 01:12PM Don't miss this story, which includes Councilwoman Emily Naeole flying her pen across the County Council Chambers ("out of hand for a reason"), and Naeole joining J Yoshimoto and Donald Ikeda to block passage of the Kona Civic Palace -- at least temporarily -- with their demand that public hearings be held first. Not a bad idea, either. I'd like to hear someone defend the inclusion of an amphitheater, museum and cafe in the project.

As it stands now, these three council members quest to torpedo the West Hawaii Civic Center has also torpedoed some important public safety projects like a new Hilo Central Fire Station/Admin Complex and Makalei Fire Station.
The amphitheater can be a small one made of concrete benches and located outdoors.
