HCC classes welcomed; HIJ on agenda
Sunday, June 22, 2008 at 11:34PM Tiffany Hunt of Councilwoman Emily Naeole's office reminds us of the Hawaii Community College classes that are coming to Puna. This really is a significant development, the result of Naeole's collaboration with HCC Chancellor Rockne Freitas and project coordinator Trina Nahm-Trijo.
Bringing these classes to Puna is a positive step toward expanding education in Puna at every level, leading to one day Puna Makai having its own satellite campus for the betterment of the entire community.
English and Hawaiian Studies night classes will be available at Pahoa High School beginning in August. Call 974-7661 for information.
Also in these comments from Tiffany was the agenda for the County Council's Human Services and Economic Development Committee meeting at 9:30 a.m. July 1 in Hilo, where the closing of the Hawaii Island Journal will be discussed:
Comm. 1296:
PRESENTATION BY HAWAI‘I ISLAND JOURNAL REPRESENTATIVES ON THE DEMISE OF THE ISLAND’S INDEPENDENTLY OWNED ALTERNATIVE NEWSPAPER
From Councilmember Emily Naeole, dated June 12, 2008, requesting the above presentation.
That should prove to be interesting.
