Plan calls for bio-fuel energy co-op
Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 04:37PM I received an e-mail from Charlie Meredith of Kapoho touting a fledgling bio-fuel energy co-op with some mighty ambitious goals. Meredith has a Web site where he's outlined his plan and calls on people to attend an informational planning meeting July 2 in Hawaiian Paradise Park. Although the plan is still sketchy, Meredith calls it a "revolutionary way of thinking about how you can control your energy cost."
I know all big things start small but this appears to be a gargantuan undertaking. Look at these goals:
- We need money, we will be offering different memberships based on a monetary price to be decided, and these funds will be needed to create the infrastructure of this Co-Op.
- We have to sign up lots of members and get lots of resources for fuel.
- We must design and build very large capacity oil refinery systems.
- We must establish resources for getting heavy equipment to help in transporting materials and products.
- Land will be needed and sites for carrying out the drop-off points for materials and Bio-Fuel manufacturing.
- We need to get community support from Federal, State, Local and Hawaiian Nation in the form of grants, and loans for agricultural and alterative fuels.
- We must see if owners of large land plots that are not in use will join the Co-Op.
- We would like to see if there is a way we can work with the Hawaiian Nation to use their land to produce jobs, crops and benefits for the Hawaiian Nation and the Hawaiian people.
- And we always want to hire the handicapped and disabled. Our goal is to have them make a fair wage and be able to support their Independence.
I don't like to be too skeptical of someone else's dream, but, designing and building a "very large oil refining system? He's not kidding when he says, "We need money."
The bottom of the Web site says, "This site is about positive change and will not be infested with input doubting our abilities to change our present condition." So sorry about the doubt. I had it before I got to the warning.
Nevertheless I wish Meredith well in the endeavor. Check out the Web site. Maybe you'll be more inspired than I was. And let me know if you are.
