I was a reporter for close to 17 years at the Hawaii Tribune-Herald until October 2005, when I joined the growing ranks of union leaders now formerly employed by the newspaper. (For more about what's happening at the Tribune-Herald, check out the Hawaii Newspaper Guild web site.) Since then I've been the Hilo unit representative for the Guild, a freelance writer, photographer, and blogger.  Puna has been my family's home since 1993.

How could I forget Main Street?

Pahoa Main Street Association secretary Chris Scherr e-mailed me on Monday with a reminder about the meeting tonight, April 9, 6-8 p.m. at the Community Center. Then I forgot to include it in the lengthy list of local meetings I published that night. I knew there was one I was forgetting.

The agenda includes discussion of the association's goals for 2008 and ways to support the Pahoa Spring Jamm on May 10. Everyone's invited, friends, neighbors, especially business owners and managers -- anyone who wants to help make Pahoa a better place to live.
