The 'best-connected journalist' in Puna.

The owner

I was a reporter for close to 17 years at the Hawaii Tribune-Herald until October 2005, when I joined the growing ranks of union leaders now formerly employed by the newspaper. (For more about what's happening at the Tribune-Herald, check out the Hawaii Newspaper Guild web site.) Since then I've been the Hilo unit representative for the Guild, a freelance writer, photographer, and blogger.  Puna has been my family's home since 1993.

Naeole on Campaign Spending agenda

Councilwoman Emily Naeole's nightmare past comes a callin' again Feb. 13 when the state Campaign Spending Commission airs the results of its investigation into allegations by Naeole's former Legislative aide, Barbara Hale.

Hale made all sorts of allegations that were given short-shrift by the Ethics Commission in July when Naeole was generally exonerated. But the CSC has its own investigators and presumably did some digging. They've had the case more than six months.

CSC Director Barbara U. Wong said the Commission has several options. It could dismiss the complaint, ask for further investigation, make a ruling on probable cause, or refer the case for criminal prosecution. The outcome could be a key turning point in her tenure on the Council. The Commission meeting will be held in Honolulu,

Comes a time when people should stop beating a dead horse. If Auntie E was held above reproach when Barbara H was throwing stones then that should be the end of it. All of this digging up bones will do nothing but produce bones with no meat or substance on them. There are many more things that need attention to help us in Puna, so let’s get on with them.

The Lack

There certainly does come a time in the course of human and inhumane events to move on. However, another perspective is that a complete and transparent look at these or any other complaints against EN or any other pol are best. That way, no one can claim a cover up or similar misdeed. As discussed in other posts here re public commissions, credibility and trust is everything.

Like I said James "stop beating a dead horse" If we don't stop draging our Rep's over the coals on every issue their are going to stop presenting them, then what?

The Lack

If there was fairness across the board and everyone was brought to justice when commiting ethics violations or any violation for that matter, we might have a"horse of a different color" Once there is a "bullseye" on your forehead......goes without saying.
We have a gov't that is screwing most of it's people on a daily basis (letting banks/motgage lenders commit crimes and then bailing them out for their losses).
Is there anybody out there more worried about those issues or are we becoming a nation of ostriches?
