A candidate only a mother could love
This just in. Stacy Higa's mom supports him for mayor.
The stunning campaign development was revealed in Higa's "Meet A Higa Supporter" feature on the front page of the first issue of his campaign newsletter Thursday.
She really, really likes him, apparently. You could read it here if the newsletter were up on Higa's Web site (I got mine via e-mail). I wonder what happened to that blog he promised.
Not to be too hard on Higa, at least he's discussing issues while we still don't hear much from the rest of the field yet. His newsletter focused on solid waste solutions -- new technology, private partnerships, smaller incinerators scattered around the island -- but unfortunately Higa also would rather spend more taxpayers' money to barge and bale our rubbish to the mainland than put it in the perfectly good Puuanahulu landfill.
The funny thing was that the article was next to Higa's "Website Survey Results" which listed the top six issues facing Hawaii County today and solid waste disposal was not among them. Higa didn't include it among the choices in his online survey. Health care turned out to be the number one issue over (in order) traffic, housing, education, development and crime.
Higa's having a steak fry fundraiser at the Pahoa Community Center this Saturday, Jan. 12, 11-3. Donation: $10. No more free beef.
Someone just told me today that the comments were turned off off for this post. That was an error and will always be an error when it happens. The check box for turning off the comments is very inconveniently placed and I have inadvertently hit it before. So I appreciate it when people notify me. Mahalo.

"... smaller incinerators scattered around the island..."
I would sure like to read about this from the original source.
One big problem with the incinerator proposed for Hilo is that it is so small that it is even less economically viable than others that have been built.
How does one get on the receiver list?
