The 'best-connected journalist' in Puna.
-- Hawaii Island Journal
I was a reporter for close to 17 years at the Hawaii Tribune-Herald until October 2005, when I joined the growing ranks of union leaders now formerly employed by the newspaper. (For more about what's happening at the Tribune-Herald, check out the Hawaii Newspaper Guild web site.) Since then I've been the Hilo unit representative for the Guild, a freelance writer, photographer, and blogger. Puna has been my family's home since 1993.

Here's what will keep me occupied this weekend.
< A random close shot of my desk top -- my real, not my computer, desk top.
Firefox all of a sudden won't connect with certain sites including this blog and the mozilla sites where I might go and try to fix the problem. So I'm working on the trusty old dinosaur house desktop while mulling my laptop woes.
Meanwhile, my oldest son is leaving tomorrow for his first year of college on the mainland so I won't be sitting here at the computer too much till then anyway. I'll be helping him and his mother get ready for the trip that launches his new life, knowing how different life will be without him around. But he needs the change and he'll thrive on it, I'm confident of that. But I'll certainly miss him, and like all parents of their kids, I am so very proud of him.
If you heard the KPUA radio program with Ken Hupp Friday I would appreciate your comments on any aspect of it. E-mail me privately if you would rather: hunterbishop@hawaii.rr.com.
And mahalos to Aaron Stene of Kona Blog for noting that the doggone comments switch got turned off again, this time for the Ashida-Joseph wrangle. Comments should never be turned off on these posts. Aaron also recommends the Hawaii Island Journal story on the Stephens Media and Wal-mart connection. Good reading. A hui hou.
