The 'best-connected journalist' in Puna.
-- Hawaii Island Journal

The owner

I was a reporter for close to 17 years at the Hawaii Tribune-Herald until October 2005, when I joined the growing ranks of union leaders now formerly employed by the newspaper. (For more about what's happening at the Tribune-Herald, check out the Hawaii Newspaper Guild web site.) Since then I've been the Hilo unit representative for the Guild, a freelance writer, photographer, and blogger.  Puna has been my family's home since 1993.

CIA saga could become a series

For anyone with continued interest in the clandestine operations of the CIA on the UH-Hilo campus, Ian Lind posted a link Sunday to an interesting discussion on a sports photographers Web site, and Jim Albertini also has some more on his blog (scroll down) about a college that apparently spooked the spooks by insisting that no restrictions be placed on the CIA's appearance such as a ban on photography. No word there yet whether Albertini received a response yet to his letter of protest to Chancellor Rose Tseng.
