'Soob' update: Snatched by aliens?

Remember the Soob? My trusty white ’89 Forester? It vanished from the face of the earth – my office parking space in downtown Hilo to be exact -- on August 31, never to be seen again.

Police have long called off the “all points bulletin,” Allstate thankfully settled the claim fairly with little hassle, and I replaced the old family buggy with a handy pickup truck, one that I’m now in the habit of locking up every time. Never thought I’d feel the need to do that in Hilo. Broad daylight, mid-morning, and I was inside my office not 30 feet from the car when it disappeared. Dang!

Anyway, if you need a used car, go see Manfred at ABC Cars, Waianuenue and Keawe in Hilo. He’s a good guy who went out of his way to help me with the new (used) truck.

I also want to mention Officer A. Auna of the Hawaii County PD, who was professional, courteous and attentive throughout, calling several times over the course of a few weeks to explain what’s happening. That was very much appreciated.

So all in all, while unsettling and inconvenient, getting my car stolen wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been. Still, it's a little strange.

I would bet that it ended up in a chop shop and used for parts
:(. But the good news is you were able to get another vehicle.
