The 'best-connected journalist' in Puna.
-- Hawaii Island Journal

The owner

I was a reporter for close to 17 years at the Hawaii Tribune-Herald until October 2005, when I joined the growing ranks of union leaders now formerly employed by the newspaper. (For more about what's happening at the Tribune-Herald, check out the Hawaii Newspaper Guild web site.) Since then I've been the Hilo unit representative for the Guild, a freelance writer, photographer, and blogger.  Puna has been my family's home since 1993.

Ralph Kramden would yell, "Nawton!"

Apparently my trusted Norton Internet Security 2006 is interfering with the placement of those Google ads, throwing everything temporarily into a tizzy and stopping new entries from being posted the past couple of days, so I've postponed the Google part of this project until the Squarespace people can  "whitelist" Norton. I'm hoping that means doing something that will make it all work.

To clarify, we would love to work around this. We have no way of modifying the whitelist on a program you've installed on your desktop. We'll keep looking for answers, but I know Norton doesn't just disrupt our application (and infact, it doesn't even always disrupt Squarespace, oddly enough -- perhaps a pattern file issue?).
