The 'best-connected journalist' in Puna.

The owner

I was a reporter for close to 17 years at the Hawaii Tribune-Herald until October 2005, when I joined the growing ranks of union leaders now formerly employed by the newspaper. (For more about what's happening at the Tribune-Herald, check out the Hawaii Newspaper Guild web site.) Since then I've been the Hilo unit representative for the Guild, a freelance writer, photographer, and blogger.  Puna has been my family's home since 1993.

Cutting back votes

Couldn't resist the urge to note that among "weekly Walmart shoppers -- a demographic group identified by Pollster John Zogby as a critical support group for Bush – just 45% now give him positive job marks." More than three out of four – 76% – of weekly WalMart shoppers voted for Bush over Democrat John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election, according to Zogby International. I'm not surprised at the results as much as I'm amused that such a separate demographic exists. I wonder if the Walmart crowd really has grown restless with 'W' or whether more Democrats are shopping at Walmart. Zogby didn't say. Where do you fit in?

I hardly, if ever shop at Wal-Mart. Especially

A Green; shopping at W-Mart less everyday, and, thanks to Zogby and team, more less now.
