"We are a nation at war."

Poinography's Doug White has an excellent piece today on Stryker Brigade developments expected Tuesday in Ninth Circuit Court that could determine whether the Army may continue its ambitious plan for training bases on the Big Island. In the end the decision may not be up to the courts, however. White tells how a never-ending national war footing may serve to trump the law.

We had the priveledge of hearing Senator Dan Akaka speak this evening at the Democratic Ho'olualea at Kona Outdoor Circle and he sure had a lot to say. It was interesting and sort of related to this topic. Akaka was on the Senate Arms Committee which had already done extensive research for 2 years and found no WMDs in Iraq. So when Bush wanted to go to war because of WMDs, Akaka protested due to their prior research and ended up voting against going to war. Akaka also said that he recently visited with the leadership in Iraq and they told him that they want the US OUT!!! Akaka is afraid however, that Bush will concoct some kind of excuse for why the US can't pull out. He said Bush likes to play Mr. Tough Guy. So at the National level, we got Bush keeping us trapped in War and at the local level we got the same sort of thing happening where the military makes us look bad if we don't let them train. .
